Happy New Year 2014!

Be it resolved … to go back and document our last several months as homeless transients! We're still undecided on a new permanent residence, but are happy & healthy in Carmel, IN in a furnished short-term condo for now.

Lake Tahoe

It's a Tuesday night and everyone in Cabin #7 @ Old Greenwood has turned in.  Today activities included golf @ Gray's Crossing with perfect sunny weather and clear mountain air, lunch on the PJ's patio there (named for designer Peter Jacobsen), naps, sunset dinner at Gar Wood restaurant lakeside, and home for rousing games of Left/Right/Center and Golf (cards)...

I'm just struck again at the joy of being with old friends such as hosts Roddes, and fellow cabin guests Dallases. To be back out on the golf course today watching George with Bob and Patrick was so much fun - it was a reprise of all those Blackhawk rounds played long ago. The bets and presses and trash talk haven't changed in 20 years!

A month later ...

So much has happened, and I *will* go back to fill in the blanks. But for today, I just want to record current happenings.

It's our last day in Indiana with the Rudy family. What a fun week! Celebrating the 4th of July at Conner Prairie (actually on July 3rd) was thrilling. We lucked out with great weather, and the music & fireworks lived up to the annual hype. We each carted in chairs, food & drink. AB & Mary, Joe & Tree & kids, Sarah & Josh & girls all went early at 4:30 when gates opened to stake out the perfect spot for us all. Everyone trickled in (we missed Jenna & Lane). At intermission/half-time we got out the cake AB brought to celebrate Rick & Mary's July birthdays. After lighting candles, we began singing, and everyone in the whole place chimed in!

This morning, after an all-nighter to stuff over 40 envelopes of tender memories to our friends and relatives, I took them all to the Noblesville post office to mail. The kind Asian man at the service window, named See, took a long time to weigh and post each packet. During that process, he asked what kind of business I did to create this big mailing, and I explained the whole sell-everything-and-move story. His eyes lit up and asked if our health was good. "Yes," I said. "So far, so good. That's why we want to make this adventure now!" He nodded approval, saying that many postal workers have aches & pains from their jobs, and are unhealthy when it's finally time to retire. He's in fine shape, and his dream is to sell everything and go to the Oregon coast to live on a houseboat! When the mailings were all in the delivery bin, I thanked him, and he sent me off with, "Enjoy your life!" Loved that.

Then I met brother Rick, brother AB & sister-in-law Mary at an old favorite haunt, Acapulco Joe's Mexican restaurant in downtown Indpls. George played some golf (getting ready for the upcoming member/guest event with Stu at Montreux, and found a new State Farm agent for us in Indiana.)
Joe's had the familiar good food, and it was big fun, with lots of old memories of our houses when growing up on Sherman Drive & 34th Street. Mary suggested we write our family history, so these stories aren't forgotten. A good idea, but a lot of work! We'll see. Rick kindly bought our lunches, saying that it was his birthday gift to Mary. Our standard birthday gift to everyone in the family is a card with a check. Sister-in-law Roni Green suggested long ago that the check amount should be $1 for each year. Easy, right? I loved that concept and have been doing it ever since. Seems a little bit chintzy now for the kids, but Rick (age 70 this year) and Mary (71) both were pretty happy with their amounts. Rick said, getting checks at this advanced age, "You make life worth living!"

Tonight, I sorted through my remaining boxes of 'stuff' and packed for our 10-day trip to Reno & Lake Tahoe, Nevada. I took several more bags of trash to the curb for pickup. It feels good to be trimmed-down & organized, and truly all of our clothes & belongings are in a single closet at Roni's house. Seriously? I can't believe it myself!

It's good to get this all written down here on the Google blog site. Nephew Joe Rudy suggested using Wordpress, so I'll investigate that to convert, add photos, etc...

I'm writing at the Green's kitchen counter, looking at some fresh flowers I trimmed earlier and put in a vase with a yellow bow. Tomorrow we leave, and Roni & Kurt return from their Green 4th of July family trip to Ocean Reef, Florida. We missed being with them, but having the house to ourselves after all the chaos of the Edina sale & good-byes to friends, and move, has been refreshing. We are so thankful to them. The flowers will greet them on their return home, and be a cheery companion to Kurt's Happy Birthday card (age 62 - another check!).

For now, goodnight! It's off to the airport tomorrow morning for our next skip down the road. Can't wait to see dear friends from college & our days living at Blackhawk in the east bay of San Francisco. We'll play a little golf, and spend some quality time in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Getting Rid of Stuff

Testing 1-2-3

Today, I'm setting up a blog for our house sale & adventure!

After 15 years of life in Minnesota, we, George & Pat, are selling our happy Edina home. We're also selling most of our belongings from 37 years of marriage, storing very few personal necessities (minimal furniture, photos & memorabilia), and hitting the road to parts unknown! This is the place we'll be journaling all the events. Follow along and enjoy the ride...

We are continuing today to clean out closets & dresser drawers & haul trash to the curb for pick up. The Gold Mine estate sale gals will come tomorrow to set up tables, price goods for sale, and merchandize for photos to be posted on estatesale.com. The sale will be held on Thursday June 20 & Friday June 21.
